Biomimetic Design of Fatigue-Testing Fixture for Artificial Cervical Disc Prostheses

To investigate the biomechanical performances of artificial cervical disc (ACD) prostheses, many studies have been conducted, either with sections cadavers under physiological loads or block-like testing fixtures obeying ASTM F2346 standard. Unfortunately, both methods are almost impossible to utilize for accurate results lifetime anti-fatigue experiments at least 10 million cycles due difficulties in cadaver preservation and great deviations natural bodies, respectively. Based on normal human structural features, a novel specimen fixture was designed fatigue behavior ACD prostheses flexion, extension, lateral bending conditions, aspects functional bionics. The equivalence between biomimetic fatigue-testing investigated by numerical simulations mechanical various conditions. This study shows that this could represent characteristics vertebrae conveniently acceptable accuracy.
